Winner to be Honored at Caregivers Conference

Cona Elder Law, a leading elder law and estate planning firm in Melville, LI, is sponsoring a “Caregiver of the Year” contest to honor a special person who has gone above and beyond the call of duty caring for a senior.  The winner will be honored at Cona Elder Law’s annual Caregiver Conference to be held on April 17, 2013 at Hofstra University School of Law.

Participants may nominate themselves or someone they feel is deserving of this honor.  Applicants must submit a description of the caregiver and outline the extraordinary services he or she provides to help a senior or elderly loved one.

Nominations are due by April 1, 2013.  Entries may be submitted via e-mail to elder@conalaw.com or may be mailed to: Cona Elder Law, 225 Broad Hollow Road, Suite 200, Melville, NY 11747.  Submissions should include: your name and telephone number, and name of proposed Caregiver of the Year, and their address, phone number and e-mail address.  Click here for a Nomination Form.

“Because we understand the stress and strain caregivers experience and appreciate how much they give of themselves, we wish to honor someone who has gone above and beyond the call of duty caring for an elder by naming that person ‘Caregiver of the Year’”, says Jennifer Cona, managing partner, Cona Elder Law.  “Many caregivers go so far as to put their own lives on hold to perform the difficult and time consuming tasks of caring for a loved one.  From being on call everyday, to moving in with an elderly parent to visiting a loved one daily in a nursing home, we’ve seen caregivers give so much, often for very little in return.  We want caregivers to know that their selfless dedication is appreciated.”

In recognition of the great challenges faced by those caring for their elderly loved ones, President Obama is proposing a $ 102.5 million Caregiver initiative for various programs that will help ease the burden of caregivers and seniors.  According to a 2009 NYS Office of Aging study, 79% of the population is providing care to an older family member or friend and most caregivers are women.
