Elder Care Benefit: Tools and Advice for Working Caregivers

Shares

It’s no secret that employees take time off from work because they have child care issues. But how many employees have to take time off, often at the last minute, because they are caring for an elderly family member or loved one? Knowing what services are available for seniors and caregivers is critical. Equally important is determining how to pay for such services. The Elder Care Benefit program encompasses comprehensive information and assistance with government benefits and programs, legal issues (including asset protection planning) and applications for government benefits, as well as practical information and support for working caregivers.

Education and Outreach

Elder Care Benefit sponsors various educational programs, including a “lunch and learn” series for working caregivers detailing what caregivers need to know to protect themselves and their loved ones. The Elder Care Benefit program is also designed to provide individualized mini-sessions to speak privately with an elder law attorney as to a caregiver’s specific situation and concerns.

With discounted legal services, families realize significant savings on Elder Law and Estate Planning services.

How Elder Care Benefit Can Help Your Organization

Elder Care Benefit is an employee benefits program provided at no cost to the employer. The program is designed to keep working caregivers at work – maximizing productivity and reducing absenteeism, down-time and turnover. Employers can enhance their benefit package at no cost and employees can take advantage of savings available only through your organization.

As our population ages, more and more people need hands-on care. Adult children are often relied upon to provide this care for elderly relatives, even though they are working, caring for children and struggling to make ends meet. As Elder Law and Estate Planning attorneys, we meet with people every day who have quit their jobs, taken a leave of absence or used all their vacation time to be on hand to care for aging family members. Working caregivers often risk their job security, their own health and their financial security to provide care for elderly loved ones.

Did You Know?

Over 65 million Americans, or 29% of all U.S. households, provide care for an adult family member.

Caregiving costs employers $33.6 billion annually in lost productivity.

Absenteeism costs the US economy an estimated $25.2 billion in lost productivity.
