Midnight Run
No one chooses to be homeless.
All it takes is a serious turn of events in one's life -- a death in the family, disability, losing a job, a house fire, a serious illness or unexpected major expense. People tend to stereotype the homeless, but in reality, it can happen to anyone.
Dear Colleagues & Friends:
Members of Genser Dubow Genser & Cona are on a mission - a Midnight Run relief mission to hand deliver food and warm clothes to New York City’s homeless this winter on a cold January night. As we ramp up for the GDGC Midnight Run into Manhattan, we are writing to ask for your support. Your donations of goods and/or money toward the GDGC Midnight Run relief effort will go a long way toward feeding and clothing the homeless.
Established in 1984 with over 900 relief missions per year, Midnight Run is a consortium of churches, synagogues, schools and civic groups that collect food, clothes, household goods, blankets and personal care items for distribution among the homeless. Volunteers, such as the GDGC staff, are responsible for collecting and/or purchasing hundreds of these items, preparing 100-150 bag meals the day of the “run” and personally delivering the food and goods to the homeless during the hours of 10:30 pm to 1:00 am. Our “run” is scheduled for January, a time when holiday giving is over and the homeless largely forgotten. Your donations will ensure a successful Midnight Run and help to ease the suffering of the homeless this winter.
How You Can Help:
Monetary contributions will be used to purchase food, clothing, personal care items and necessities which will be hand-delivered to the homeless by our staff during the “run”. The GDGC staff will do the shopping, purchasing the items listed below. No amount is too small; every little bit helps. Please make your checks payable to “GDGC Charitable Events”.
You may also donate the following items by dropping them off at our offices in Melville during the week of December 10th-14th:
¨ Food - Durable items that are easy to store including soup mix (big canisters), coffee, bottled water, juice boxes and individually packed snack foods.
¨ Toiletry kits (travel or sample size) including soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, washcloths, razors, shaving cream, deodorant and lip balm.
¨ Clothing – New and gently used, preferably Men’s Large and Extra Large including warm coats, durable pants, socks, underpants, sweaters, sweatshirts, long-sleeved shirts (dark shades are preferable), hats, gloves, shoes, long underwear, belts and backpacks.
¨ Blankets
All contributors will receive an honorary mention on the Genser Dubow Genser & Cona website. For more information on Midnight Run visit www.MidnightRun.org.
The GDGC Midnight Run team thanks you on behalf of the many homeless you will be feeding and clothing on a cold winter night. Thank you for your generous gift.
With best wishes,
Jennifer B. Cona, Esq.
