Senior Dreams Unites Smithtown Senior with New Granddaughter

June 2015

When Theresa Lamb, 73, heard about Cona Elder Law’s (Cona Elder Law) Senior Dreams Come True program, she immediately submitted her application.  Thanks to this remarkable program that has helped many low income LI seniors, Cona Elder Law granted Mrs. Lamb’s wish and purchased round trip airline tickets to Florida so she could meet for the first time her granddaughter born on April 15th

With social security as her only source of income, Mrs. Lamb lives in Siena Village, Smithtown.

Always going out of her way to help others, she is co-captain of her building.  Since the residents are older, she volunteers to check on them while delivering newspapers to their door.  “They look at me like I’m an angel especially on Ash Wednesday when I deliver the ashes to them,” explains Mrs. Lamb.

Known as the “plant lady,” she worked as a receptionist in the Siena Village office while taking care of the plants.  She also has 40 of her own.

“I am so grateful to Cona Elder Law and Senior Dreams,” said Mrs. Lamb.  “Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to see my new granddaughter.” With no computer or cell phone, Mrs. Lamb had never even seen a picture of her new granddaughter.

Since she was 16, Theresa worked as a receptionist at many different companies.   In addition, she took care of the elderly where she prepared their meals, shopped, did housekeeping and drove them to doctor’s appointments.   Born in North Carolina, she lived in Queens prior to moving to Smithtown 10 years ago.

Applicants for Senior Dreams Come True must be 65 or over with an income limit of no more than $1,500 per month for single individuals and $2,000 per month for a married couple. A letter or statement under 750 words describing the senior’s need must be submitted along with a Wish Request form.  The application should also document how the senior has given to others and contributed to society in some way.

To obtain an application and “Wish Request” form, go to the Cona Elder Law website: www.conaelderlaw.com or call 631-390-5000.
