​CELEBRATE VETERANS

Cona Elder Law, elder law and estate planning firm in Melville, honored three winners of their student art contest “These Colors Don’t Run” at the recent LI State Veterans Home event in Stony Brook to celebrate Veterans. Each winner who was selected from an elementary, middle and high school in Suffolk County received a $50 gift card and a certificate from the firm. 

“We sponsored the contest to give students an opportunity to show their creativity while thanking local Veterans and their families for their service to our country,” explains Melissa Negrin-Wiener, Esq., partner at Cona Elder Law.

Three students were selected from over 100 entries for their creativity and originality that depicted the contest theme.  

The winners included:

• Erin Wong, age 7, Second Grade, Deer Park – Her work was chosen because it captures the youthful spirit of freedom, heroism and peace.  The panel also liked that the young artist sent her best wishes to the families of the soldiers and Veterans.
• Deana Fragiorgi, 12, Seventh Grade, Kings Park – The panel chose this artwork because it highlights our diverse country.  Different nationalities are represented in the various branches of the military, unified under our nation’s flag and under the words ‘We the People’. It is a powerful message, especially from a middle school student.
• Denver Dukes, 17, High School Senior, Cold Spring Harbor – The panel found this piece to be a beautiful work of art by a very talented high school artist.  There is a simple ‘thank you’ message to our Veterans but there is a much deeper impression made from the look in the Statue of Liberty’s eyes and the melting flag draped across her face. It is a very moving image.
