Cona Elder Law Launches “Senior Dreams Come True”

Many L.I. seniors with limited incomes are finding that life continues to be more of a challenge where even a simple need or wish, which most of us take for granted, cannot be fulfilled.

As advocates for seniors, Cona Elder Law, a leading elder law firm in Melville, has launched “Senior Dreams Come True”, a subsidiary of Cona Elder Law Charitable Events, to grant wishes to seniors with limited means.  “Our attorneys work with many low income clients who cannot afford to get some basic things they need or want for themselves,” explains Jennifer B. Cona, managing partner at Cona Elder Law.  “We hope that this new program will make a difference and enrich the lives of a few well deserving seniors.”

The firm is hoping to fulfill as many wishes as they can each year depending on funding and available resources.   Some examples of senior wishes that Cona Elder Law may grant include:

- plane fare to visit a child or loved one who lives across the country
- home improvements, such as bathroom modifications or wheelchair accessibility
- experimental medical treatment not covered by insurance
-  prescription drug coverage for someone in the Medicare “doughnut” hole
-  an outfit for a special event
- dinner and a show
- tickets to a sporting event
- spa services

Applicants must be 65 or over with an income limit of no more than $1,500 per month for single individuals and $2,000 per month for a married couple. A letter or statement under 750 words describing the senior’s need must be submitted along with a Wish Request form.  Applicants should also document how they have given to others and contributed to society in some way.

To obtain an application, go to the Cona Elder Law website: www.conaelderlaw.com.  All materials must be sent by regular mail or email no later than October 15th.

Cona Elder Law is planning several events to help raise money to grant wishes.  On August 19th, Chili’s Restaurant in Farmingdale will donate 10% of the entire bill for those that dine at the restaurant and show a  Cona Elder Law “Senior Dreams Come True” voucher.

A silent art auction is expected to be held in November at a local painting school.  Clients and friends will be invited to attend this event and bid on student paintings that will be on display.  One half of the proceeds will be donated to “Senior Dreams Come True.”  It is also expected that the first wish will be granted at this event.

People can also make donations to the program to Cona Elder Law Charitable Events anytime during the year.
