What to Do After Your Loved One has Passed

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected many of us with inconceivable hardships, and for some that includes the most unfortunate circumstance; the loss of a loved one. Fortunately, our experienced attorneys are here to help you every step of the way and we recommend the following initial steps:

  • Notify the Social Security Administration and pension providers that your loved one has passed.
  • Secure original death certificates for each financial institution and insurance company.
  • Close credit card accounts to prevent fraud and identity theft.
  • Collect mail to gather bank statements, bills and other financial documents.
  • Locate the Last Will and Testament, Trust, and any other Estate Planning documents.
  • Gather all insurance policies.
  • Call the experienced and compassionate attorneys at Cona Elder Law.

We are here for you. If you have any questions or need assistance with the steps above, our Elder Law attorneys are always available to assist you. Call us at 631.390.5000 or click here.
